Solexa’s first product, the Genome Analyzer, launched in 2006 with a retail price of $400,000, and the company was acquired by the American genomics firm Illumina the following year. In 2008, the company published a paper demonstrating their technology’s ability to efficiently sequence whole genomes via short reads.
